What Makes Chiropractic Different From Conventional Medicine?

Chiropractic is a holistic form of health care. Chiropractors do not prescribe drugs or any kind of medicine. Drugs and medicine may help to alleviate the pain in some circumstances but all they do is mask the underlying problem. They do not heal the condition, which is causing the pain. Chiropractors believe in getting to the root of the problem and finding out what is causing the pain. They believe in letting the body heal on its own as long as there is no interference (nerve dysfunction). For example, if you had a cut on your finger, your body will recognize the problem and the cut will heal over time, as long as there is no interference. Now say that you got some dirt in the cut and it gets infected. This will interfere with the healing process just as nerve dysfunction interferes with the body functioning the way it is supposed to.

This is not to say that all medicine is bad and that all drugs are bad. There are cases when patients are in extreme pain, where they would benefit from conventional medicine.

Albert Schweitzer, MD once said that, “Each patient carries his own doctor inside him. We are at our best when we give the doctor who resides within each patient a chance to work.” This quote is important because this is the basic premise behind the whole Chiropractic philosophy.
